To have the honour to advise that we have
received instructions to recruit fer the Sarawak Government
for work on
The Sarawak Government Cellieries,
Badong (Tia Kuching)
90 Chinese Sinkehs, if posñible net over 18 years of age.
Young coelies are desired as they are easier

to teach the various tasks to be performed than older men.
The particulars of the agreement the coolies will be required to sign on arrival in Sarawak are as
follows:-
A. Term of service 3 years.
B. Tages 50 cents per day out of which coolies pay
for their food.
C. Return passage to Hongkong on termination of agree-
Ment:
D. Werk: Coal Mining, underground.
I. The coolies to acknowledge a debt of $40
recoverable at about $1.00 per month;

To have interviewed the Protector of Chinese,
Singapore she has advised us that he has no objection to the
above mentioned terms and that if the coolies are forthcoming
from Hongkong he will permit them to pressed to Sarawak.
To have been instructed to forward the
coolies from Singapore to the care of the Chief Secretary
